Hi, I'm also a knitter in the southend. I've been teaching myself to knit (after I learned the basic stitches from someone in college) for a few years. I recently picked up handspinning, but don't often have much time to do that. So far, I'm having trouble with "fancy" stitches, but have managed to turn out a blanket with a hood.
